A native North Carolinian, Alex M Schell graduated with honors from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Dance (2010), where she had the privilege of performing works by Jim Sutton, Pamela Pietro, Stacy Spence and Alwin Nikolai (under the direction of Alberto del Saz).  During her second year she was selected to travel to Salzburg, Austria to take part in the SEAD exchange program, where she took class from international dance artists.  Post-graduate, Alex has performed with Naomi Goldberg Hass/Dance for a Variable Population, Amanda Szeglowski/cakeface, Designated Movement Co. (Katie Rose McLaughlin and Dan O’Neil), Sarah A.O. Rosner/A.O. Movement Collective, Holly Heidt, Ani Javian, and Deborah Corrales. 

 

Alex currently performs with MATYCHAK (Nathalie Matychak) and in Third Rail Project’s Bessie Award winning production, Then She Fell.  

 

In 2014, Alex founded AMS Project, a collaborative performance group that aims to make dance more accessible to the public by integrating dance, gesture, visual arts, live music, and spoken word.  Several members have performed Alex's choreography both onstage in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, and in music videos for Frances Cone and Anna Coogan.
